I don't know if this suggestion will help or not, but why not just use a sonic character figure as the base?  I'm mean think about it, you cut off limes around the head all the time, and find other parts that work for the character, and it some times works out.  Not to mention your robotize masters turned out more like a robotic look.

But I don't know completely if it'll work out.  I mean you are more experienced at this than me.
